iFFmpeg is a useful video conversion utility. The steps below are for converting a video to ProRes so it can be played back with the Video Player.
ProRes is a codec that is used commonly in post-production as it can reduce CPU load when decoding video. Other codecs such as H.264 are often not ideal for post-production, depending on the capabilities of the computer being used.
- Open iFFmpeg
- Drag your video into it
- From the dropdown menu, choose "PRORES Standard Profile"
- Click on "Edit" under "Video (PRORES)" in the right column
- You can change the resolution or quality settings in the resulting window. Make sure to set "Aspect Ratio" to "Auto". See our video guidelines.
