Converting videos to ProRes with iFFmpeg

The Knowledgebase has moved! Please visit the link below for updates and new articles.

iFFmpeg is a useful video conversion utility. The steps below are for converting a video to ProRes so it can be played back with the Video Player.

ProRes is a codec that is used commonly in post-production as it can reduce CPU load when decoding video. Other codecs such as H.264 are often not ideal for post-production, depending on the capabilities of the computer being used.

  1. Open iFFmpeg

  2. Drag your video into it

  3. From the dropdown menu, choose "PRORES Standard Profile"

  4. Click on "Edit" under "Video (PRORES)" in the right column

  5. You can change the resolution or quality settings in the resulting window. Make sure to set "Aspect Ratio" to "Auto". See our video guidelines.
